The NOPE material standard

PHA first. PLA onlywhere it makes sense.

NOPE PHA is biobased, 100% biodegradable and home-compostable. It breaks down in soil, rivers and oceans with no microplastics and no toxins.

We specify food-safe materials, inks and manufacturing partners who design for the real world, not lab conditions.

From use to soil

The lifecycle.

  1. Use

    At venues, retail sites, campuses or hospitals.

  2. Collect

    Through standard waste channels, PHA behaves like organic matter.

  3. Compost

    Full biodegradation typically within 6–12 months where composting exists.

  4. Regenerate

    Even in low-oxygen landfill it completes its cycle safely.

Why not paper, PLA, wood or bamboo?

They sound goodon paper.

Paper relies on plastic linings that contaminate recycling. PLA needs industrial composting, and the UK lacks reliable infrastructure.

Wood and bamboo carry heavy carbon footprints from deforestation, transport and processing, and often require synthetic coatings to stay food-safe.

These materials don't break down safely, can't handle moisture or heat, and often end up in landfill or incineration like everything else.

Measure what matters

Offsets pay someone else to fix your emissions.

Insetting cuts them in your own supply chain. Switching to NOPE PHA or NOPE reusables reduces Scope 3 emissions at source, fewer waste hauls, lower manufacturing CO₂, and circular end-of-life.

We're building the first NOPE Impact Tracker, mapping plastic eliminated (kg) and CO₂e saved per SKU, so the numbers are exportable straight into ESG reporting and Scope 3 disclosures.
