The problem we're solving

Recycling was neverbuilt for food-soiledpackaging.

PLA needs industrial composting the UK doesn't have. Paper cups are lined with plastic. "Bioplastic blends" just confuse everyone.

The result? Landfill. Incineration. Greenwash.

NOPE replaces that mess with one credible pathway, a material that behaves like plastic in service, but like nature in disposal.

Where it ends up Conventional plastic persists for centuries.

612 months

Typical time for NOPE PHA to fully biodegrade where composting is available.

100%

Biobased, biodegradable and home-compostable, not a blend.

Centuries

How long conventional plastics can persist by comparison.

The mission

We're ending single use. One supply chain at a time.

NOPE exists to replace short-term plastic thinking with long-term circular design. From reusable systems to home-compostable PHA, we create real-world alternatives that cut carbon, simplify disposal, and fit the pace of modern life.

We don't do buzzwords. We build better systems.

The material

PHA: plastic thatnature understands.

Made by microbes, not oil. Home-compostable, marine-safe and carbon-friendly. It's what plastic should've been all along.

Microbial culture suspended in liquid, the biological source of PHA

Grown, not refined

PHA (polyhydroxyalkanoate) is produced by microbes through fermentation, a biopolymer, not a petrochemical.

Designed to disappear

It biodegrades in soil, rivers, oceans and home compost, leaving no toxins, no microplastics, no trace.

Breakdown
Soil · compost · marine · landfill
Residue
No microplastics, no methane spikes, no toxins
Infrastructure
None required
PHA cutlery partially returned to soil, edges broken down and colonised by earth

Then it's gone

Full biodegradation typically within 6–12 months where composting is available.

Built for service, not shelf life

Food-safe and durable across hot, cold and alcoholic drinks. Taste-neutral. Engineered for venues, retail, healthcare and travel.

From high-footfall venues to regulated healthcare.

Our products are designed for pressure, pace and public visibility, making zero-plastic operations practical and profitable.

The UK reality

Not PLA. Not paper.Definitely not plastic.

Most "eco plastics" fail where it matters, in real life.

How the common alternatives behave in UK conditions.
Property NOPE PHA PLA Paper Wood / bamboo
Home compostable Yes No, needs industrial composting No, plastic lined Partly
Works with UK infrastructure Yes, none required No Contaminates recycling Varies
Breaks down in soil & marine Yes No Lining persists Slow
Microplastics or toxins None Fragments From lining From coatings
Handles moisture & heat Yes Limited Poor Needs coating
Carbon footprint Low Moderate Moderate High, deforestation, transport

Honest about the policy gap

Under current UK law, PHA is still classed as a plastic, which means it doesn't yet qualify for Plastic Tax exemption. The system still rewards recycled fossil plastics, not biodegradable innovation.

We're honest about that, because leadership means showing the future, not waiting for it. While others chase tax exemptions, we focus on cutting emissions inside your own value chain.

From use to soil

The lifecycle, end to end.

  1. Use

At venues, retail sites, campuses and hospitals, performing exactly like the plastic it replaces.

  2. Collect

Through standard waste channels. PHA behaves like organic matter, so no separate stream is required.

  3. Compost

Where home or food-waste composting exists, full biodegradation typically occurs within 6–12 months.

  4. Regenerate

Even in low-oxygen landfill it continues breaking down, without microplastics, methane spikes or toxins.

FAQ

Frequently askedquestions

Quick, clear answers on reusability, taste neutrality, disposal guidance, plastic-tax position and branding options, so your team can switch with confidence.

Talk to the NOPE team

Will PHA hold up across a full event day?
Yes. NOPE PHA is engineered for service, not shelf life, durable across hot, cold and alcoholic drinks, and stable through a full trading day under real venue conditions.
Does it affect the taste of drinks?
No. The material is taste-neutral and food-contact compliant across hot, cold and alcoholic applications.
How do customers dispose of it?
Compost at home, or dispose in a regular bin. PHA breaks down completely without requiring separate infrastructure, which is what makes it workable in the UK.
Is NOPE exempt from the Plastic Packaging Tax?
Not currently. Under UK law PHA is still classed as a plastic, so it doesn't yet qualify for exemption. We'd rather say that plainly than imply otherwise. NOPE does help reduce exposure and simplify reporting, and every rollout is traceable for Scope 3 carbon insetting.
Can we brand the products?
Yes. Co-branding is available across cups, straws and cutlery.
What certifications do you hold?
Independently verified for home compostability (OK Compost HOME) and food-contact compliance. Where required we provide UKCA/CE metrology for volume-accurate serves, plus spec sheets, declarations and disposal guidance for audit and staff training.
